정연두(1969년생)는 서울대학교 조소과를 졸업하고, 영국 골드스미스 런던대학교에서 미술학 석사(MFA)를 받았다. 현재 서울을 기반으로 활동하고 있다. 그는 사진, 비디오, 설치 등 미디어 기반 작업에 집중해 왔으며, 그의 작업에는 퍼포먼스가 직·간접적으로 등장한다. 동시대 일상의 장면들에서 출발해 보이지 않는 서사에 주목하고, 그로부터 발생하는 가능성을 탐구한다. 타인과의 만남, 대화, 협업을 통해 작업을 전개하며, 예술과 일상, 그리고 예술의 주체와 객체 사이에 하나의 문턱을 형성하는 관계적 접근 방식을 취한다.

2007년 국립현대미술관 ‘올해의 작가’로 선정되었다. 주요 개인전으로는 국립현대미술관(2023), 울산시립미술관(2022), 노턴 미술관(미국 웨스트팜비치, 2017), 아트선재센터(2017), MAC VAL(프랑스 비트리쉬르센, 2015), 아트 타워 미토(일본, 2014), 플래툰 쿤스트할레(서울, 2014), K11 아트 스페이스(상하이, 2013), PERFORMA 09(미국 뉴욕, 2009) 등이 있다. 또한 강릉국제아트페스티벌(2025), 제60회 베니스 비엔날레 한국관 30주년 기념전(2024), 광주비엔날레(2021), 베니스 건축비엔날레(2016) 등에 참여했다.

그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 리움미술관, 도쿄도현대미술관, 뉴욕 현대미술관(MoMA), 시애틀 미술관, MAC VAL 등에 소장되어 있다.

Yeondoo Jung (b. 1969) graduated from the Department of Sculpture at Seoul National University and earned his MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London. He is currently based in Seoul. Jung has focused on media-based practices including photography, video, and installation, in which performance appears directly or indirectly. His work often draws from the routines of contemporary life, paying close attention to unseen narratives and exploring the possibilities that emerge from them. Through encounters, conversations, and collaborations with others, he adopts a relational approach that forms a threshold between art and everyday life, and between the subject and object of art.

He was selected as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea’s “Artist of the Year” in 2007. His major solo exhibitions include: National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (2023); Ulsan Art Museum (2022); Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach, USA (2017); Art Sonje Center (2017); MAC VAL, Vitry-sur-Seine, France (2015); Art Tower Mito, Japan (2014); Platoon Kunsthalle, Seoul (2014); K11 Art Space, Shanghai (2013); and PERFORMA 09, New York, USA (2009). He has also taken part in the Gangneung International Art Festival (2025), the 30th Anniversary Exhibition of the Korean Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024), the Gwangju Biennale (2021), and the Venice Architecture Biennale (2016).

HHis works are held in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea; Leeum Museum of Art; Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Seattle Art Museum; and MAC VAL.
